Hydroxyethyl cellulose powder is a stable though hygroscopicmaterial.
Aqueous solutions of hydroxyethyl cellulose are relatively stableat pH 2-12 with the viscosity of solutions being largely unaffected.However, solutions are less stable below pH 5 owing to hydrolysis.At high pH, oxidation may occur.
Increasing the temperature reduces the viscosity of aqueoushydroxyethyl cellulose solutions.
